It was the birthplace of Sir Rowland Hill, founder of the Penny Post, Sir Josiah Mason, who went on to found the college which became Birmingham University, Sir Walter Nash, New Zealand's Prime Minister from 1957-60 and was the home of 17th century preacher Richard Baxter.
