Winchester Royal Hotel, Hampshire

Winchester Royal

The Winchester Royal is located in a quiet backwater, close to the famous cathedral and most of the historic attractions in Winchester, England's ancient capital. Built as a private residence in the mid 16th century, it has served as a bishop's house, a Benedictine convent and, since 1857, a hotel. Also nearby are the Arthurian round table, museums, and, a short drive away, Watership Down, the inspiration behind Richard Adams's best-selling rabbit novel. As an added bonus, the hotel offers a free walking tour of the city on Saturday mornings.

In recent years the Royal has been extended and refurbished, however, many of the original features have been retained and the atmosphere is one of warmth and comfort rarely found.

Beautifully furnished rooms are decorated in a welcoming, traditional style, befitting the surroundings. All come with a good range of facilities plus 24 hour room service.

The light and airy Conservatory Restaurant offers international cuisine from a menu full of variety as well as a too-good-to-turn-down afternoon tea. During the summer, barbeques are served up on the terrace.

Ranging in capacity from 20 to 140, meeting rooms at the Winchester Royal are able to cater for most gatherings. Back-up equipment is of a high standard.
