County Hotel, Carlisle
County Hotel
Situated in the heart of the city centre, the County Hotel may be the newest hotel in Carlisle, but it actually occupies the oldest building.
Built during the reign of King George III, the hotel overlooks the splendid twin towers of King Henry VIII's historic Citadel.
Visited during the 1840's by the Duchess of Kent, Queen Victoria's mother, this hotel remains a popular stop over for all people travelling between England and Scotland.
All of the 84 guest rooms are tastefully decorated, each boasting an en-suite bathroom, television, tea and coffee making facilities and direct dial telephones. Two ground floor bedrooms are suitable for disabled guests with ramps and lifts also available.
The hotel has every modern convenience, whilst still retaining the décor and atmosphere of Georgian Grandeur, making it suitable for the executive, honeymooners, or simply a break to get away from it all.
The Stable Restaurant is open daily for Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner. For your evening meal, choose from the a la carte menu or table d'hote menus, and complement your meal with a drink from the fine selection of wines and liqueurs, adjacent to which is the Portland Residents Lounge Bar.
If you choose not to dine in the Stable Restaurant, why not try the traditional and wholesome food in the relaxed and friendly atmosphere of Mary's Pantry, which complements Mary's Chambers Traditional Real Ale Pub. Here, a selection of cask and keg conditioned beers including some from Jennings, Cumbria's only independent brewery are available.
