Hunstrete House Hotel
Hunstrete House stands in a classical English landscape on the edge of the Mendip Hills. The house is largely 18th century but the history of the estate goes back to 963AD. Many of the rooms have uninterrupted views over undulating fields with woodlands cresting the hills and deer grazing in parkland beside the house. The estate was owned for 350 years by the same family and only became a hotel 20 years ago. The house is much as it was when a private home.
The location is ideal for visiting the unique Georgian city of Bath with its remarkable Roman ruins, as well as the bustling city and port of Bristol. Within easy reach are Wells, Glastonbury, Longleat, Wookey Hole and Cheddar Gorge. Or if those excursions are simply too much, then do nothing more than relax and indulge yourself in the peaceful atmosphere of the hotel!
All 23 ensuite bedrooms are individually decorated with antique furniture, artwork and fine porcelain. There are two suites, "Swallow" on two floors, has both a South and East outlook while "Dove" complete with four poster bed has a South and West outlook, with both having beautiful views over the grounds. The other rooms, all with their individual charm are classified as Junior Double, Master Double and Deluxe Double. Eleven spacious rooms are in the Courtyard wing and some have connecting doors for families.
The Cuisine at Hunstrete House is of the very highest standard, having been awarded the much coveted Michelin Star and the AA Three Rosette. Fresh produce taken straight from the Hotels own gardens is used, and the cellar offers an extensive choice of wines for all occasions and taste. A wide range of menus and seasonal dishes are on offer, and the Hotel is happy to discuss your personal requirements for all occasions.
A log fire is always burning in the main lobby area during the winter months (and much of the summer also). Leading off the lobby are the Library and Drawing Room all tastefully decorated and largely as they were when the house was a private home. The small Bar is a more recent addition and like the adjacent Garden Room looks out over the Croquet lawn. The Garden Room is equipped with air-conditioning and is very popular for private dining, executive Board level meetings and more recently has been licensed to perform the marriage ceremony. Opposite the Garden Room and overlooking the attractive paved courtyard is the beautiful award winning Terrace Restaurant. The Studio Room is a smaller private room, originally used as an artists painting studio by a previous owner, and today is used for private dining or small meetings. Leading off the reception area in the main entrance hall is "Quail". This charming room is frequently used for private dining and executive meetings.
The Hotels outdoor heated swimming pool is in a sheltered area off the gardens and has its own changing rooms. Along-side the swimming pool area is the all weather tennis court. Guests are invited to enjoy these facilities or walk the grounds and gardens. To the north of the grounds is the Ice House which although rebuilt at some stage following a storm, was used originally for the storage of ice to preserve game and produce for the main house.
