The Bath Spa opened in January 1990 after a three year refurbishment costing £22 million. It has quickly established a reputation as one of the finest hotels in Britain, achieving several awards and accolades. It was awarded five stars by both the RAC and AA motoring organisations within six months of opening!
The hotel is set in seven acres of landscaped gardens stretching down to the Kennet and Avon canal, and has wonderful views over the city of Bath, which is a ten minute walk away. It offers guests the luxury of a country mansion, with all the attractions of the historic city close by.
In July 1994 The Bath Spa was awarded the prestigious Caterer & Hotelkeeper Hotel of the Year. The award, known as The Catey, was given for exceptional standards of service within the hotel. The Bath Spa was chosen as 'a star in the firmament of that brilliant British product - the historic house hotel'.
The 102 bedrooms, of which a third are for non-smokers, are furnished with a subtle blend of colours and maintain the atmosphere and appearance of a private house.
In the public area there are two restaurants, the elegant Vellore in the former ballroom and the contemporary Alfresco. There are three specially designed beauty rooms, known collectively as The Retreat - one of these three rooms focuses entirely on men, featuring the 'Just Men' range of treatments specifically designed to combat the stresses of modern day life. The hotel also offers the facility of a hairdressing salon.
Guests staying in the hotel enjoy a free membership of The Laurels Health and Leisure Spa, which has a fully-equipped gymnasium, indoor pool, spa pool and saunas, with a tennis court and croquet lawn in the grounds.
For younger visitors the independent, professionally run Kemble Nursery, situated in the grounds of the hotel, provides a stimulating and safe environment for guests children aged two to seven years.
